M.Sc. [Engineering] in Electrical Machines and Power Engineering
This course aims to prepare students for developing their careers in Electrical Machines and Power Engineering. The course enables the students to acquire capability in understanding the Engineering of Power Plants, Generation, Transmission, Distribution and Utilization of Electric Power, Power System Analysis and Stability, Instrumentation, Automation and Control of Electrical Power Systems. The Emphasis on the role of power electronics and embedded systems in the broad domain of electrical power system engineering will form one of the principal objectives of this course. The educational experience enables the students to achieve an integrated understanding of the software usage and analysis in the area of Electrical Machines and Power System.
The specific course aims are:
- > Provide a thorough understanding on the basics and working concepts of power plants and electrical systems
- > Select, design and analyse a particular power plant for a given application
- > Draw a layout for a chosen electrical power generator, transmission,distribution and utilization to meet the application requirement
- > Apply the engineering concepts involved in electrical power systems analysis and stability
- > Develop a scheme for instrumentation, control and automation of the power plants for their safety and protection
- > Offer a unique opportunity for the student to apply state-of-art Electrical Computer Aided Engineering tools for design, modelling, simulation,
analysis and optimisation of electrical power systems
- > Provide a thorough understanding and application of the concepts of embedded systems and power electronics in power system engineering
