This course aims to prepare delegates for developing
their careers in Automotive Product Design. The course will give
delegates capability to design components, sub-assemblies and systems
for modern automobiles with good understanding of engineering as well as
aesthetics and ergonomics. Emphasis is placed on creative and
imaginative approach to automotive product design and development.
The M.Sc. (Engg) in Automotive Product Design Course aims to:
1. Define the need for CAE tools and Product Data Management, in design,
prototype build and other stages of an automobile development program
and apply it
2. Recognise the need for finite element method in assessing designs of
components/assemblies/systems subjected to different types of
operational conditions and apply it
3. Use basic calculations for sizing the components for automotive
structures, taking into considerations the legislative requirements for
the safety of the occupants and pedestrians
4. Select compatible materials and manufacturing processes for
automobile components and assemblies
5. Identify the need, application and working principles of electronic
controls in a vehicle
6. Apply aerodynamic and thermal energy management principles in the
design of exterior and interior of the vehicle for better performance
and occupant comfort
7. Apply the steps of Design Methodology for the development of products
from concept to completion.
8. Design the exterior of a vehicle with the knowledge of the
functionality of parts, components and subassemblies
9. Design the interior of a vehicle with the knowledge of the
functionality of parts, components and subassemblies with due
consideration to ergonomics and occupant safety
10. Apply the knowledge of quality process and design management when
the product is in design stage
11. Develop capability to transfer the designs from concepts, models and
drawings to implementation of the same
